The Desirable Components Of Great Blues Guitar Lesson Videos An internet search for blues guitar lessons in video format can be a formidable experience, even more so for the fledgling guitarist with little idea of what he needs. What are the best features of the most effective packages on offer? As you might imagine, we can identify common components that might help us choose the right tuition. Of course it almost goes without saying, any lesson for whatever subject should flow in a logical way and be simple to take in. Basic steps need to be clearly outlined, and build into further lessons. Musical theory has it's place, but a student guitar player is literally champing at the bit - he wants to play! Musical Notation or Tablature?
For years, classical guitarists learned to read musicl notation and followed the written notes when playing or composing new music. Inevitably, this means a progress that is sometimes thought of as too slow in today's fast moving world. In the 60s, blues guitar maestro Stephan Grossman and others, created a method of guitar tablature that represented the strings and frets of the guitar neck. This abbreviated guitar notation was rapidly understood and is a powerful tool for learning blues guitar, for example - check out this example featuring Deep River Blues by Doc Watson. A grid of 6 strings is numbered from the bottom bass E (1) to the top E string (6) and a number placed over a string indicates which fret the finger should be placed above. A single line at the side of this number indicates that the picking thumb or finger is employed. Chord diagrams and tab could be overlaid on the video, so that students can follow the finger movements at the same time.When learning a song, it's nice to have the words at hand and a short discussion about singing whilst playing. This might seem obvious, but it's really hard for a new student to do both together! The blues guitar tabs and lyrics might be provided as a seperate Word or PDF file, which can be printed and used at the student's leisure. An MP3 audio file could additionally be provided, so that the lesson could be referred to casually at any time. However, if the video file is in the correct format, it can be viewed on an iPad or iPhone.
